The wide variety of choices along
the North Shore of Lake Tahoe is the reason why tousands of people
from all over Nevada and California, including Las Vegas, Los Angeles
San Diego and San Francisco, flock to this area of Lake Tahoe.
Lake Tahoe's economy
is all about tourism, and that means fun. The surrounding Sierra
Nevada mountains provide excellent skiing in the winter and the
lake itself is a draw for tourism in the summer. Additionally, real
estate, recreation, retail, government, service-industry, restaurants
and construction provide a good number of jobs for local residents.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,761 people, 789 households,
and 362 families residing in the CDP. The population density was
515.8 people per square mile (199.4/km²). There were 2,102
housing units at an average density of 615.7/sq mi (238.0/km²).
The racial makeup of the CDP was 95.34% White, 0.28% African American,
0.40% Native American, 1.31% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, 0.45%
from other races, and 2.10% from two or more races. Hispanic or
Latino of any race were 3.63% of the population.
There were 789 households out of which 20.8% had children under
the age of 18 living with them, 37.9% were married couples living
together, 4.6% had a female householder with no husband present,
and 54.1% were non-families. 30.0% of all households were made
up of individuals and 3.7% had someone living alone who was 65
years of age or older. The average household size was 2.23 and
the average family size was 2.75.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 15.9% under the
age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 45.0% from 25 to 44, 25.7% from
45 to 64, and 6.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median
age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 128.4 males.
For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 132.5 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $56,875, and
the median income for a family was $79,412. Males had a median
income of $41,136 versus $25,833 for females. The per capita income
for the CDP was $33,534. About 1.1% of families and 5.5% of the
population were below the poverty line, including none of those
under the age of eighteen or sixty-five or over.
